The depth and diversity of the independent internal investment research conducted by Fiera Capital’s Canadian Equity team is the cornerstone of our investment approach. Our Canadian Equity professionals are divided into Value, Growth and Small Cap teams.

Canadian Equity – Value

Our investment philosophy is anchored on the fundamental belief that dividend-paying securities outperform over the long term and that the price paid matters. We employ a fundamental bottom-up investment approach that emphasizes value, sustainability, and growth potential of dividends.

Portfolio construction emphasizes the performance potential of the underlying companies, with high importance placed on risk adjusted valuation. Strong consideration is also given to the diversification of business and economic drivers. This disciplined process results in a well-diversified portfolio that exhibits a consistent lower risk than the market with a strong outperformance potential.

This team manages the Value, Ethical and High Income Equity mandates.

Canadian Equity – Growth

Using a dynamic approach, and while continuously seeking outstanding opportunities, higher growth prospect companies with strong earnings momentum are selected and weighted on a relative basis. We employ a fundamental bottom-up investment approach to establish a sound investment thesis and identify catalysts providing the potential for the realization of the investment thesis over a 12-month investment horizon.

We seek reasonable valuations and employ a relative investment approach whereby active security weights are based on conviction and relative sector exposure is minimized. We focus on stock selection and continuously reassess portfolio holdings given our belief that market volatility creates opportunities. We apply numerous risk management parameters, closely track the various sources of risk, and constantly maintain our disciplined investment approach, which results in strong outperformance potential.

This team manages the Growth, the Environment and the North American Market neutral mandates.

Canadian Equity - Small Capitalization

Extensive internal research is the cornerstone of our investment process. As many small companies are not followed closely by market analysts, we believe that significant value can be added through frequent meetings with management, company visits, and detailed analysis. We seek excellent management quality and solid business plans which will enable the scalable business to grow into a larger capitalization stock. Attractive valuation is key, and we believe that patience leads to buying opportunities and ensures that quality companies are also good investments.
