In March, investor sentiment was dominated by headlines surrounding cooling global growth, ongoing US-China trade negotiations, and cautious undertones from major central banks.  Equity markets welcomed some encouraging signs of progress towards a trade deal and the dovish pivot from major central banks – which boosted risk appetite and saw global equity markets cap their best quarterly gain in a decade. However, bond investors were in panic-mode after yield curves flattened (and in some cases, inverted) during the month, which prompted recession fears and sent nervous investors fleeing to government bonds as a refuge.
